The Jack Program

The MME, or Ministry for Masculine Equality, was the branch of government in the United Kingdom responsible for overseeing the ‘Jack Program’:

MMELogoThe MME’s original function was to address a perceived loss of masculinity in society, through sponsoring women who identified as masculine, to retrain as men. Their ultimate role was to replace the masculine presence of the fallen war heroes in society, and thus enable a generation of young boys and girls to have masculine figures to emulate. Contemporary thinking feared that a ‘fully feminized society would be unable to face the threat of communism.’ Despite the binary philosophy of the original MME programs, the Jacks were an important forerunner to future equalist movements worldwide.
